You may remember that last year we entered Visit Cornwall’s Tourism Oscars for Website of the Year. We managed to grab a Silver Award for that.
This year we’ve entered the 2010 Oscars for:
- B&B of the year; and
- Self Catering establishment of the year.
It was a huge amount of work for us both to marshall evidence and then write answers to a whole heap of questions from the Visit Cornwall Team. But we managed to hit the submission deadline (Monday 17th May); in spite of a mega file corruption in our self catering entry (don’t you just love Microsoft Word). We lost the entire document and had to retype it. Our submission went in at 9:30pm!
Actually, we found the whole process massively rewarding because it made us think very hard about our business – how green we are, how well we market the barns, how we maintain and assure quality, how we respond to customer complaints and importantly, how we make our accommodation accessible to those that are physically, aurally or orally impaired.
We’ve decided therefore to register under the National Acessibility Scheme to make sure our facilities appeal to the broadest range of people. We get inspected (yes another set of inspections) in about 6-8 weeks time. We know we need to put grab rails into our bathrooms and a few other bits and bobs – but if it means that we end up making Roundhouse Barns a better place for a broader range of customers, than that can only be a good thing….
We’ll blog more about grab rails and accessibility in the coming weeks.
