January Events
Irrespective of the season, there's always something going on in Cornwall.
January is a wonderful time to come to Cornwall. The frost is in the ground and bizarely this makes it easier to explore parts of our wonderful coastal path - simply bring some good walking boots and explore our coastline. Daffodils are also early to bloom and there's always plenty to see in our famous gardens.
Here are a selection of things to do around and about The Roseland Peninsula in January.
There's also a very useful publication called Cornwall Today that provides much more information and can be purchased in almost all newsagents in the County. Two other good sources of information are King Harry's Cornwall and the Visit Cornwall websites.
1 - 31 January - Ice Skating at Eden. Have a great time on the ice at Eden. If you're not the ice-skating sort, go along, enjoy the biomes and have a laugh at everyone else falling over on the ice rink!
3, 10, 17, 24, 31 January - Sunday Roast and Ferry Combo. Take a return trip in the St Mawes Ferry and have lunch at either the St Mawes Hotel or The Boathouse in Falmouth. £14/person includes ferry and lunch
6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 28, 29 January. Two for one on the St Mawes Ferry. Get two return tickets on the St Mawes Ferry for the price of one. Ideal for visitors and locals alike who want to seek out sale bargains in either St Mawes or Falmouth
13 January - The Revenge of Rumplestiltskin. The Miracle Theatre Group perform this popular work at various locations across Cornwall in January. 7.30pm, Veryan Parish Hall, Veryan.
14 January - Winter Pruning at Trelissick. Find out about the techniques and patters to prune trees, shrubs and wisteria. 11am, Trelissick Gardens, Feock.
17 January - Wassailing at Trelissick. The traditional wassail dates back to Pagan ritual; singing to the health or apple trees to guarantee a good crop, bashing pots and pans to scare off evil spirits. See the Cornish Orchard on old "Twelfth Night". 5pm Trelissick Gardens, Feock. Bring a torch and warm clothing!
19 January - Never Say Rabbit In A Boat. A rehearsed reading of the work of the late local playwright Nick Darke. 7.30pm Hall for Cornwall, Lemon Quay, Truro.
23 January - Taste The Tango. Bringing a breath or exoticism to wintry Cornwall, Bragatanga offer an intoxicating blend of world folk music to us. 7.30pm Grampound village hall.
24 - 25 January - Darke Nights; Darke Visions. Young people from across Cornwall take Nick Darke's work as a starting point for drama, music and visual arts.
29 January - Dodman to Blackhead - Wreck and Rescue. More than 100 ships have been wrecked on the notorious Manacles rocks. Falmouth Harbour's senior Pilot, David Barnicoat, reveals the deadly history of this treacherous coastline and the shipwrecks which led to the establishment of the lifeboat stations from Cadgwith to Portloe. National Maritime Museum, Falmouth.
