Great Locally Sourced Fresh Food

Gone are the days when all Cornwall had to offer was a pasty or chicken and chips in the basket.  Over the past 5 - 10 years, there has been a gastronomic revolution in Cornwall.

Here is a list of some of our favourite local pubs and restaurants.

For seafood fans, you'll find plenty of choice on most menus, including freshly landed crab, lobster, line caught sea bass and Fal River mussels.  Wing of St Mawes supplies many local restaurants (and delivers to Roundhouse Barns as well). In October, experience the freshest Cornish Oysters at the Falmouth Oyster Festival.

Meat eaters are equally well catered for with Cornish reared lamb, beef, pork, duck and venison featuring on many restaurant menus.  Lobbs Farm Shop and Calenick Butchers (on the road from the King Harry Ferry into Truro) supply many of our local restaurants with Cornish reared meat products.

Wines, beers and cider

Cornwall also has always had a vibrant brewing industry.  Wine production however is a relative newcomer to Cornwall, but thrives in Cornwall's warm climate.  A short drive from us, you'll find Polmassick Vineyard.  A little further afield, there's the chance to combine hiring a bicycle, cycling the Camel Trail with a visit to the Camel Valley vineyard.

Beer and Cider of course have a much longer association with Cornwall.  Three of our local brewers offer brewery trips:

Skinners Brewery in Truro, St Austell Brewery and the Cornish Cyder Farm

Farm shops

We actively encourage our guests to shop at our local farm shops and farmers markets.  Some of the best are shown below.

Lobbs Farm Shop Tel 01726 844411 stocks an impressive array of meats, vegetables, preserves and locally baked goods.  We love shopping here.

Humfreys Farm Shop Tel 01872 530417 stocks a range of locally sourced meat, fruit and vegetables, milk plus locally baked biscuits, cakes and ready-cooked meals.

Truro Farmers Market - every Saturday in Lemon Street in Truro stocking an impressive array of locally produced cheeses, preserves, vegetables, meats and fish.

Curgurrell Farm Tel 01872 580243 stocks home grown fruit, vegetables.  Even better, Simon and Charlotte's two children fish the local waters and Charlotte sells their catch -lobsters, crabs, sole, sea bass. Wonderfully fresh.

A R Day Tel 01872 580246 our local butcher in Portscatho who supplies all our bacon, sausages and hogs pudding for our B&B breakfasts.
