What’s it all about?
It’s your chance to see behind the scenes of the Fleet Air Arm, the Royal Navy’s flying force on the only day of the year when the public can step into the world of Culdrose and experience the sights, sounds and smells of a working military Naval Air Station.
Famed for heroic rescues, and with frontline helicopter Squadrons supporting the Navy across the globe, Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose is home to a variety of military aircraft including Merlin and Sea King helicopters, Hawk Jets and King Air 350 Avengers.
Aerobatic display teams flying fast jets and helicopters from Britain and other armed forces from around the world will thrill you with exciting, action packed flying displays. The speed and noise will take your breath away.
As well as awesome flying displays, there is plenty to do on the ground too – meet the heroic Aircrew who fly helicopters around the world, get up close to state-of-the art aircraft and learn all about life in the Royal Navy.
How can you take part?
You will be able to meet aircrew who have served on Front Line Squadrons all over the world, pilots who have just earned their ‘Wings’, and members of the Search and Rescue Squadron who are seen flying all over Cornwall on daring rescue missions, often putting their own lives at risk to save others. Why not climb onboard state-of-the-art aircraft, take a ride in a helicopter or be winched high into the air.
From the safety of the crowd line you will enjoy looking skywards while aircraft carry out daring manoeuvres and precision flying, against the stunning backdrop of the Cornish Coastline. On the ground there will be a large static display of aircraft. Here you will be able to get up close to a wide variety of modern and historic aircraft, and have your picture taken with your favourite.
